Asylum and Immigration

Here are some key facts that we have helpful for clients seeking asylum and immigration, if any of the following apply to us contact us to see how we can help:

UK residency and working rights under EU legislation

Are you aware of family rights for European workers?
Nationals EEA countries have the right to live and work in the UK; they may also be joined by their family members. Proving your right to live and work here can be a problem, especially if you are a dependant of an EEA national. We can help you to apply for a Residence document which will make proving your rights in the UK a lot easier.

Do you have a European relative?
If you have a close family member who is an EEA national living in the UK and you can show your close ties with them, you may be eligible to join them with an EEA family permit.

Are you marrying a European national or in a long term relationship with one?
Being married to an EEA national who is ‘exercising their treaty rights’ in the UK gives a non-EEA national rights to live and work here too. This includes people who have lived together in a relationship ‘akin to marriage’ for at least two years. Proving this to some employers is difficult unless you have a residence permit as the dependant of an EEA national – we can help to get this.

Are you a dependant of an EEA national who is now splitting from your partner?
If you have married to your EEA partner for at least three years, and both of you have been living in the UK together for the last 12 months or more, you may be entitled to apply to remain in the UK, even though you divorce. Such a Retention of Right of Residence application can be very complex however, we can help!

Did you know that an EEA citizen who has lived in the UK for 6 years may be eligible to apply to naturalise as a British citizen?

The qualifying period for EEA nationals is 6 years. For nationals of the A8 member countries (Poland, Estonia etc.) this would start from May 2004; for nationals of the A2 member countries (Bulgaria and Romania) the period started from January 2007
